OUTLINE OF THE BOOK
2. Beginning in the Middle - Mariposa, 1961
The Mariposa Folk Festival in 1961 was a defining moment in the emergence of folk music as a mass form of popular music. The book begins with an analysis of who performed at the first one, what they sang, and how they got there. The collective repertoire of the Mariposa performers both reflected the creation of a genre of music called folk and outlined how this music would develop over the next 40 years.
